Great post! This is exactly how I like to explore a city. There’s no better feeling than packing my backpack with a few essentials and setting out for a whole day or wandering a new city.

Cool term – that’s a much nicer way to describe my travelling style than “I’m too cheap to take the hop on/off bus so I walk everywhere I can”! One time in Manhattan I walked from 1st Street to 59th Street, going down Broadway. It’s very interesting (and also at times intimidating) how the neighbourhoods change drastically within a few blocks. I think I wouldn’t do it again if I were alone at night.

I’ve never heard the term flaneur before but I am definitely one as I love just going out with my camera wherever I am!! And I wish more people would do it too as there is so much to discover that isn’t in any of the guide books!! A fabulous post, thanks for sharing!!
