Yes, I agree. Although that’s one of the benefits of staying downtown. You can get back to your hotel and apre at one of the great brew pubs that are right downtown.

Alta is very old school and they are devoted to the art of skiing. Snowboards tend to smash up moguls so you do get good bumps at Alta because of the lack of snowboards.

There are also new hotels and plenty of restaurants right at the base of the convergence of the two canyons. Beware of Cottonwood PD. If drinking, use Lyft.
