Thanks for this, Carol! I am looking at including this trip on mine and my mother’s literary tour of the U.K.! While we might not stay IN the liberary the whole area looks like the perfect place for book nerds. I’ve also been looking at doing a writer’s retreat and booking a cottage in Wales later this year and this area might be a good stop over for a few days.

Great post Carol! We visited Hay-on-Wye for the first time last year to go to the Hay Festival but I need to go back because there just wasn’t enough time to visit enough of the bookshops. We managed to squeeze in Addyman’s and Murder & Mayhem, both of which I loved but I could have spent all day browsing – your trip sounds like a dream!

What a wonderful post! I’m so glad I came upon it. I am a travel blogger/author and have actually just booked a stay at Gladstones in March! So this post – from someone who’s stayed and experienced the place – was essential reading for me.
I have three nights there too – I think I shall do just that: stay, relax and revel in the surrounds.
